【世界盃系列！「4 強」英文怎麼講？】
我們現已經在 4 強了！4 強的英文，你會嗎？

其實，邏輯上我們應該是從決賽開始，那就是：
★ the final /ˈfaɪnəl/ (名)
In 2014, Germany beat Argentina in the final.
(2014年的世界盃決賽，德國擊敗阿根廷。)

那，4 強／準決賽就是...
★ semifinal /ˌsɛmiˈfaɪnəl 或 ˌsɛmaɪˈfaɪnəl/ (名), 複數 semifinals
其實 semi- 是「半」的意思，所以 semifinal 字面上就是「半決賽」。
其實，semifinal 表示★一場★準決賽，所以如果你是說一個準決賽，會用單數的 semifinal，但如果要一起說那兩場，會用複數的 semifinals. 如：
The first semifinal is France against Belgium. The second semifinal is Croatia against England.
(第一場準決賽是法國對比利時，第二場則是克羅埃西亞對英格蘭)
The winners of the semifinals will meet on July 15th!
(贏得準決賽的隊伍將在7月15日對決！)

那，8 強是什麼呢？就是：
★ quarterfinal /ˈkwɔrtərˈfaɪnəl/
Quarter 就是「四分之一」的意思，所以 quarterfinal 字面上是「決賽的四分之一」。我知道這個聽起來很奇怪，但我們就是這樣說的！
一樣，一場是單數的：
Brazil lost their quarterfinal to Belgium.
(巴西在8強賽中輸給比利時。)
但是超過一個（或說所有的 8 強比賽）是複數的：
Ooh, the quarterfinals were pretty exciting. I hope the rest of the tournament is just as good!
(喔，8強賽好刺激。希望接下來的比賽也一樣這麼刺激！)

16 強呢？這個有點不一樣。就是：
★ the round of 16
這裡 round 是「回、局」的意思。
Some of the smaller countries, like Iceland, got knocked out in the round of 16. So sad!
(一些比較小的國家，像是冰島，在16強賽就出局了，真遺憾！)
其實，要說一場，可能要加 game, 即 round of 16 game.
Columbia lost their round of 16 game to England. That was a pretty violent game!
(哥倫比亞在16強賽中輸給英格蘭。那場比賽有些暴力！)

那，上面都是說淘汰賽。分組賽，就是有很多小組的，我們會說：
★ the group stage
Group 是團體，stage 是階段。
Germany got knocked out in the group stage. Man, they were terrible!
(德國在分組賽中就出局了。天阿，他們真的太糟糕了！)

很多美國人也喜歡說那個晉級圖。英文就是：
★ the bracket /ˈbrækɪt/
Bracket, 我的英中字典說：「括號，括弧，等級，檔，托架 。」但說球賽，就是晉級圖的意思！
Ooh, England are on the easy side of the bracket. Maybe they can get to the final!
(喔，英國在晉級圖比較容易的那邊。搞不好他們可以進入決賽！）
